Rizhao Port Reports 5.6% Increase in Log Imports For First Four Months

Jun 07, 2026

前4个月日照口岸进口原木同比增长5.6%

As a key hub along the Belt and Road Initiative and the largest log import port in China, Shandong's Rizhao Port continues to serve as a core gateway for domestic log imports, driven by its strategic transportation advantages and the "front port, rear park" industrial model. Since the beginning of this year, China's timber processing industry has steadily recovered, with downstream enterprises reporting increased production orders. Efficient customs clearance and rapid logistics have become critical factors in ensuring the stable operation of the timber supply chain and improving corporate operating efficiency.

To continuously optimize the port business environment, Rizhao Customs-under the supervision of Qingdao Customs-has focused on the entire log import process, upgrading regulatory service models. Building on risk prevention and control measures, customs authorities have fully implemented an "electronic quarantine plus alongside inspection" model. By coordinating vessel arrival information in advance and facilitating early declaration and appointment-based inspection procedures, online pre-clearance is completed before vessels arrive. Loading and unloading operations can begin immediately after berthing, significantly reducing both port clearance and cargo turnaround times.

To address industry challenges such as high professional thresholds for wood species identification, difficulties in on-site recognition, and lengthy traditional inspection procedures, customs has deployed the "Jian Mu" wood intelligent identification system to assist with inspections. Using specialized equipment and intelligent terminals, rapid preliminary screening and identification of wood types can now be performed on-site. This approach has improved inspection efficiency and further shortened clearance cycles.

According to official data, log imports at Rizhao Port recorded steady growth during the first four months of this year, providing stable raw material support for regional timber processing and related industries. Leveraging its port advantages and efficient customs clearance guarantees, Rizhao Port continues to fulfill its role as the nation's primary gateway for log imports.

Looking ahead, customs authorities will further deepen customs clearance facilitation reforms, optimize regulatory service efficiency, support the transformation and upgrading of the timber industry, and promote green, low-carbon, and high-quality development within the sector.
