The Production Process of MDF Line
The medium density fiberboard is processed(through sections of material preparation, fiber preparation, regulating and supplying glue, forming and hot pressing, post-processing, and sanding) to be 450-880kg/cm³ from the raw material of wood fiber or other plant fiber. And the raw material can be woods, brush woods, and the processing residues of woods.

Material Preparation Section
After the raw materials are sawed to wood pieces in certain sizes by wood chipper and stored in material warehouse, clean up to the impurities, such as fines, earth and sands, in the wood pieces through screening.
Fiber Preparation Section
Feeding the wood pieces into the boiling apparatus evenly to cook and soften through sequeezing and dewatering after transfering them into the defiberator pre-heating bins/humidifying bins by the transfering equipment in order to separate the fibers easily. The cooked wood pieces will be seperated to fibers under the forces of heat and machine. Then mix the wet fibers and heated dry medias, and keep the fibers suspending in the drying medias under the high speed force of the high-pressure air flow, and the moisture in the fibers will be taken away by the dry media. Afterwards, the fiber will drop the force of cyclone separator onto the reversible belt conveyor to be transferred to the pavement bins for temporary storing.
Forming And Hot Pressing Section
The dried fibers are transferred into the paver metering bin by the pneumatic system, and the paving rolls of the mechanic vacuum paver paves the fibers onto the circular conveyor. And the air will be sucked away by the mesh belts, under which there is vacuum case forming negative pressure, as while, the fibers are sucked on the mesh belt and form slabs gradually. In the next moment, the fluffy slabs will be compacted by the pre-press machine, and be sawed vertically and longitudinally to lengths required, and then the slabs will be transferred to the loader by the synchronous conveyor, speed-up conveyor, storing-board conveyor and extensible conveyor succecssively. After being loaded by the loader, the small machine in the loader will transfer the slabs together with the cantilever belt into the hot press machine.
During the tranferring process, the shovel at the front of the conveyor belt push the compacted slabs out, and the rough boards will enter the unloader as well as slabs get to the preset position when the small machine arrives at the termination. Then the small machine draws back as the belt revolve forward. The revolving speed of the belt is equal to the back speed of the small machine, so that the slabs are relatively static and stay on the hot press. The slabs will be formed to specified thickness under the temperature and pressure of the thermal compressor, and the inside glues will solidify. At last boards of certain strength will be made. Then the boards will be unloaded onto the carrier by the unloader, and unloaded and transferred to the next process by the discharge machine gradually when the suspension coop goes down layer by layer.
Finishing And Sanding Section
The thermal-compressed slabs will be cooled through turning over and transferred to the vertical and horizontal sawing machine by the roller conveyor to be sawed into medium density fiberboard in required sizes, and at last, to be separated, stacked, packed and transferred to the warehouse after sanding.

What Machines Are Required to MDF Production Line
Raw Material → Drum Chipper → Vibrating Scerrn → Preheating Disgester → Refiner → Fibre Drying section → Mechanical Forming Machine → Hot Press → Cooling Line → Sanding Section
Raw Material
Logs, harvesting and processing residues can be used to recycle old waste wood and non-wood raw materials such as bamboo, bagasse, wheat straw and other plant cellulose. The content of plant cellulose is more than 30%, and the moisture content is controlled at 40%~60%. Foliage, preferably single species.
Drum Chipper
Drum chipper/disc chipper, which cuts raw materials into wood chips of certain specifications. Qualified wood chips: length 16-30mm, width 15-25mm, thickness 3-5mm, uniform size.
Vibrating Screen
Sorting wood chips, continue to cut the big ones to the required size.
Digester Machine
The fibers are easier to separate, reducing power consumption, shortening the separation time, and increasing the plasticity of fiber raw materials. Cooking pressure 0.8-1.2Mpa, temperature 160-180 degrees Celsius, time 3-5min.
Fiber Preparation Section
Thermal grinder grinds into fibers. Molten paraffin or other waterproofing agent is fed into and mixed with the fiber, and the adhesive is transported through the pipeline under a certain pressure to the fiber discharge pipe of the heat refiner to fully mix with the fiber.
The amount of paraffin wax applied is 1-2%, and the amount of sizing medium density board is 8-12%.
Fibre Drying Section
The hot air transports the wet fiber from the dryer duct to the cyclone separator, the moist air is separated from the fiber, and the fiber is dried to the moisture content required by the process
Moisture content after sizing and before drying: 50%~60%, after drying 8~12%,Drying medium temperature 120~180℃
Drying outlet temperature: 50-70°C,Air velocity 20-30m/s.
Mechanic Mat Forming Machine
The material is thrown by the throwing roller and falls evenly onto the conveyor belt of the paving line. Process requirements: uniform and stable density, consistent thickness, with a certain degree of compactness, to ensure sufficient thickness and size specifications.
Hot Press Machine
Under the action of pressure and temperature, after a certain period of time, the slab is pressed into the density required by the process to become a raw board. There are multi-layer presses and continuous presses for hot presses.
Four stages of hot pressing process: ① Slab air discharge ② Temperature conduction ③ Pressurization to the specified thickness ④ Pressure relief and exhaust to shape
Cooling Line
The temperature of the board after hot pressing is high, and the heat is not easy to dissipate when stacked directly. Need to be cooled to below 60°C before stacking or processing.
Sanding Section
After cooling the raw board for 24~72 hours, sand it, sand off the pre-cured layer on the board surface.

Quality Parameters and Measuring Points of MDF Production Line
MDF is an engineered wood product that is easy to finish, paint, or apply a wood veneer to mimic natural wood. It is much less expensive than natural woods and is primarily for indoor use due to its poor moisture resistance.
Moisture is a very important parameter in the manufacture of MDF, as moisture content determines the overall strength and durability of the board. The surface appearance/quality of the board is governed by moisture distribution.
Moisture, resin and wax measurements can be made simultaneously using an on-line Near Infrared (NIR) sensor at multiple locations within the MDF manufacturing process.
Moisture of green wood chips (pre-digester) can be measured to calculate dryer load and to control the feed rate of the dryer. Typical moisture range is between 45 and 150% dry weight, so without feed rate control the dryer can be overloaded.
Post-dryer moisture measurement is taken on the refined fiber at the exit of the refiner, and the moisture range is typically 30 to 55% dry weight.
On the preformed mat, the moisture range is 0 to 5%.
Installation Locations
Is typically mounted within 6 to 16” of the product and is either looking directly at wood chips and fiber or through a glass window. The moisture sensor can also be fitted with a snorkel sampler to measure moisture of fiber free-falling in a chute. The sensor’s analog outputs are typically connected to the process controls system allowing the end-user to monitor their process and log historical data.
