Rizhao Port's Front Port, Rear Park Model Fosters Wood Industry Cluster in Lanshan District

Feb 05, 2026

As a key node in the Belt and Road Initiative and a critical transportation hub connecting central and western China, Shandong Port's Rizhao Port has deepened its engagement with the hinterland wood market. By continuously extending and upgrading the industrial chain, building a comprehensive wood supply chain service system, and strengthening its advantage in timber cargo, it has become a major log import port in China.

To ensure rapid customs clearance for wood-carrying vessels, Rizhao Port collaborates with port authorities such as customs, border inspection, and maritime safety administration to implement facilitative measures like appointment-based clearance and prioritized inspection. Furthermore, utilizing its established specialized wood storage yards alongside designated quarantine and treatment areas for inbound timber effectively meets import quarantine requirements, enabling "immediate inspection upon arrival and fast-track clearance."

Adopting a "chain" mindset to better serve clients, Rizhao Port partners with logistics groups, traders, and wood customers to establish a "Front Port, Rear Park" wood supply chain service model. Leveraging resources such as fumigation facilities, its status as a Class A designated customs supervision site for inbound logs, and newly built warehouse sheds, the port fully meets customer needs. This has created a new wood logistics channel encompassing "overseas import – storage & fumigation – domestic transshipment," offering customers a "one-stop" wood supply chain service.

Currently, Lanshan District in Rizhao City is home to over 400 wood trading and processing enterprises, with an annual processing capacity reaching 6 million cubic meters across five centralized processing zones. By importing raw materials like wood chips and pulp and exporting products such as wood-based panels and finished paper, a complete industrial chain model integrating wood processing, trade, and transportation around the port hub has gradually formed. This stands as a successful implementation of Rizhao Port's "Front Port, Rear Park" supply chain service model.

Beyond this, building on the "Front Port, Rear Park" model and abundant port resources, Rizhao Port is actively expanding its market share. It is developing a green, low-carbon development model encompassing a full range of "wood+" formats, including biomass power generation and wood products. This continuously unleashes the comprehensive efficiency of the port-proximate wood industrial park, promotes the transformation and long-term development of the regional wood and wood products industry, supports Rizhao City's goal of building a "Global Wood Trading Center" and a "World Wood Processing Center" integrating "storage, logistics, trade, processing, and services," and fosters deep integration of port, industry, and city development.
