
In the first two months of this year, China's import and export value of goods dropped 1.2% year-on-year to 6.54 trillion yuan, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs on March 7. Among them, exports reached 3.88 trillion yuan, a record high in the same period, up 3.4% year on year; Imports were 2.66 trillion yuan, down 7.3 percent year-on-year.
Lu Daliang, director of the Statistical analysis Department of the General Administration of Customs, said that in the first two months, various departments actively responded to the adverse impact of the external environment, and China's foreign trade operation was generally stable.
Compared with last year, the first two months of this year less than 2 working days, excluding the impact of non-comparable factors, import and export growth of 1.7%, fully reflects the resilience of China's foreign trade development.
Separately, the United States imposed a 10 percent tariff on nearly all Chinese imports on Feb. 4 and raised it to 20 percent earlier this week. Chinese exports have hit a record high so far this year as higher U.S. tariffs, and the prospect of more to come, have pushed Chinese exports forward.
Although the start of this year, China's trade exports are generally good, but the focus on the home building materials industry, but the overall cold. Furniture and its parts, lamps and lighting fixtures and their parts, ceramic products exports have declined to varying degrees. Among them, the largest decline is ceramic products. Data show that from January to February this year, the export of ceramic products was 2.627 million tons, down 10.1%; Exports were 21.32 billion yuan, down 29.6 percent year on year. Exports of furniture and its parts were 71.78 billion yuan, down 14.5 percent year on year. The export value of lamps, lighting fixtures and their parts was 40.09 billion yuan, down 20.8% year-on-year.
In terms of trade partnership, ASEAN continues to be China's largest trading partner. In the first two months, China's import and export to ASEAN reached 1.03 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4%, accounting for 15.8% of China's total import and export value in the same period, which has maintained growth for 12 consecutive months. In addition, China's exports to the European Union, the United States and Japan increased by 1.8 percent, 3.4 percent and 2 percent respectively, and exports to countries jointly building the Belt and Road increased by 2.4 percent.
